“Independent charity Infosound has been providing a free, professionally-produced information service for blind and partially sighted listeners across Great Britain for nearly a decade. This is now offered in the form of a browsable and frequently-updated audio library of information, presented in different category sections.
With demand for this type of impartial information growing, Infosound wanted to increase the ways they could bring that information to vision-impaired people, not least for those who have no Internet access or bespoke audio players like the Sonata Plus.
That’s when they called upon the expertise of Talking Newspaper Services Ltd.
TNS modified their system to be able to read the 9 different feeds of information and perform high quality text to speech on the titles of each track. In addition, they also implemented a feedback system for the audio noticeboard.
Once the system was up and running, Infosound found that they had to do nothing extra to reach a whole new audience, provide a greatly enhance offering to listeners and make significant savings for the charity over running a CD service.
